The Environment Protection Act 1997 was a law that was put into place in Australia to preserve the land, improve living conditions and also make the land sustainable. According to this Act, the definition of the land being contaminated is after the land has been surveyed and has found substances which exist in larger proportions than it naturally should. In the case of Asbestos handling, when such harmful substances are not handled or disposed of in the correct manner, they have ill effects. The mineral concentration of Asbestos in that land increases, leading to contamination of that lands and this is precisely where the Environment Protection Act 1997 comes in.
This Act should be taken in manner that is consistent with having a healthy environment. The laws in this Act cannot be disputed unless, reasons can be found to show that it is causing damage to the environment. It is also required by Law that this Act be taken in such a way that it also harmonizes with other laws such as health and other national laws. This all sums up as follows - Just as the environmental law involves the steps taken to achieve the objective of environmental protection and health law involves the steps taken to achieve the objective of protecting public health, it only shows that a particular territory law will involve a law for the environment and also a law for health, which is all taken care of in this Act.
Unlike the asbestos particles polluting the air, the Act does not deal with noise and air pollutions, caused by trains, common wealth airplanes, air exhaled or passed out by human beings or animals or even the gases emitted by motor vehicles which are pollution certified. According to the Act, if asbestos is to be transported from one place to another as material or garbage, it should be done as stabilized asbestos in a bonded matrix.
So the Environment Protection Act works on regulating the usage, handling and disposal of asbestos keeping the environment in mind and dampening the contamination on human beings that come directly or indirectly through asbestos.
